Originally from the Netherlands, Chester Marine Services owner Wynand
Baerken cumulates over 20 years experience in the marine industry. He worked as
a commercial diver in the off shore Industry and for the Dutch Underwater Archaeology
Department. As founder of the OVMO foundation, a non-profit initiative to locate
Missing In Action crewmembers of WWII planes shot down over Europe, he was directly
responsible for solving many M.I.A. cases. In 2000 he immigrated to Nova Scotia
and started, as marina manager, for the IMP Group owned Oak Island Marina. With
The Barnacle boatshed and Ship Shape Marine closing it’s doors in Chester, he
felt that an opportunity presented itself by combining the two in the centre of
this unique boating community.
